Buying guide

What to look for in a UX bootcamp.

Not all UX bootcamps are the same. These are the criteria worth checking before you commit several thousand pounds and several months of evenings.

Live vs self-paced

Self-paced courses suit disciplined, experienced learners. For most career-changers, live cohort accountability is what makes the difference between finishing and stalling. Check whether sessions are live and scheduled.

Small cohort size

A cohort of 100+ makes live interaction impractical. Look for max 15-20 per group so you can actually ask questions and get feedback in real time.

Real work experience

Portfolio projects built on fictional briefs are common. Look for real company briefs in the foundation, and - for the full career programme - real work experience at a start-up, not a simulated project.

Industry-recognised certificate

Look for certificates that employers in your target sector actually recognise. Talk to people already working in UX to understand what carries weight when you are applying.

Transparent pricing

Some bootcamps require a sales call before revealing the price. Total cost, deposit terms, and payment plans should be visible on the course page.

Why UX Academy

Built around the London reality.

Live and small-group

Every session is live, with a real tutor you can ask questions in real time. Max 15 students means you are not a number. Self-paced videos cannot replicate that accountability or the peer energy of a cohort.

Evenings that fit a London job, no commute

Wednesday evenings, 6:00-8:30pm UK. Because we are fully online, you save the 60-90 minutes Londoners typically lose to a commute. Work full-time and still complete the programme.

Real work, not fictional briefs

The foundation course builds your portfolio on a real company brief. Progress to the UX Career Track and you add real work experience at a start-up - not a simulated project, but actual work you can speak to with confidence in interviews.

A fraction of the cost of premium London bootcamps

General Assembly London charges around £9,000 for their UX design programmes. Our UX/UI Design foundation is £1,500; the full stackable programme (foundation + Career Track) is £3,000. Price-match guarantee on comparable live courses, interest-free payment plans available on request.

Other options

We are not the only option.

UX Academy is the right fit for many London career-changers, but not every learner. If you want a detailed, honest comparison of the main live online UX design courses available in the UK, including our own, read our independent guide: Best online UX design courses in the UK. UX Academy is not affiliated with Designlab, General Assembly, or any other bootcamp provider.

Common questions

Before you decide.

Are UX bootcamps worth it?

A well-designed UX bootcamp can accelerate a career change that would otherwise take years of self-study. The key variables are whether the course is live (not self-paced), the tutor-to-student ratio, whether you produce a portfolio piece on a real brief, and cost relative to what you earn after. Cheaper does not always mean worse, and expensive does not guarantee employability.

How much does a UX bootcamp cost in London?

London UX bootcamp prices range widely. Premium in-person or hybrid programmes such as General Assembly London run around GBP 9,000. UX Academy's live online UX/UI Design Course is GBP 1,500, with a price-match guarantee on comparable live courses and interest-free payment plans available on request. The GBP 99 deposit holds your place and is refundable.

How long is a UX bootcamp?

Typical durations range from 8 to 24 weeks depending on whether the programme is full-time or part-time. At UX Academy, the 8-week UX/UI Design foundation is the entry point; you can then stack on the 12-week UX Career Track for a ~20-week full career programme (GBP 3,000 in total). Both run part-time on Wednesday evenings so you can keep your job while you retrain.

Can I do a UX bootcamp part-time while working?

Yes, if the bootcamp is designed for it. UX Academy runs on Wednesday evenings (6:00-8:30pm UK), with coursework spread across the week. Students hold down full-time jobs and complete the programme. A Monday-to-Friday full-time format is not compatible with employment.

Do I need experience to join a UX bootcamp?

No prior UX or design experience is required for UX Academy. Most students come from adjacent roles (product, marketing, engineering, research) or from entirely different fields. If you are unsure whether you are ready, the free masterclass is the right first step.
